The Masonic Charitable Fountation (MCF) will be launched in April 2016. It will over-arch the work of the existing four national Masonic charities: The Grand Charity, The Masonic Samaritan Fund, The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution. This will simplify a wide range of grants and assistance for Masons and their families who have a financial, health, education or care need, as well as providing aid for the wider community. The MCF will allocate funds made by the existing four charities. In keeping with their original charitable remit, to maintain the level of support that Masons and their families have become accustomed to. The MCF will also award grants to other charities, hospices, medical research and disaster relief appeals.
To fund the national charities’ work every 11 years each Province, under the United Grand Lodge of England, is invited to organise a fundraising event known as a ‘Festival’. The ‘Festival’ system is the most important fundraising method and all Festival’s due to conclude during or after 2022 will be in support the MCF. The purpose of a ‘Festival’ is to raise significant funds for the charity that each Province has been chosen to support so that they may be able to continue with their good work.
A ‘Festival’ generally lasts for a period of five years or more. However, the Provincial Grand Master of West Lancashire, Tony Harrison has negotiated a shorter term of four years, for the MCF 2021 Festival. It is hoped that the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity does not suffer too much from the reduction in donations to them during the ‘Festival’ period.
The Province of West Lancashire has been chosen to be one of the first Provinces to hold a ‘Festival’ in support of the MCF. This is an exciting and historic opportunity for brethren in this Province to show the rest of the country the level of generosity that is in the hearts of the members of the Province of West Lancashire – something we all do so well.
The Province of West Lancashire MCF 2021 Festival will be launched on 16 May 2017 at Provincial Grand Lodge by the Provincial Grand Master when more information will be made available.
